Hello,

We host the us1.php.net mirror which was delisted awhile back due to an
outage. The issues have been resolved as of last year. All health and
compliance checks pass for our mirror on status.php.net, but we are still
listed as inactive.

We have emailed this mirrors group a few times with no resolution. Could we
get listed back as active please?

Thank you,
-Brad

Don't sweat it. Just set up some scheduled mail message semi weekly.
Someone will notice eventually :)

But with all due respect to maintainers, I'd like to ask a question
nevertheless. Is there anything we as a community could do to make this
mirror management thing work a little bit more swiftly? There seems to be a
bottleneck we could surely get rid of somehow.

Hi all,

I'm old and still have access to things but am afraid I don't know the
topic well. But, the php.net project is in dire need of fresh faces to
do sysadmin work... that much is certain.

As for us1, shouldn't the following look alright?

  http://php-mirror.nexcess.net/

There are errors. For comparison, the us2 host looks alright:

  http://php.he.net/

I'm not sure why php-mirror.nexcess is referencing us1 for files like it
is but php.he is referencing php.he.net instead of us2. Why the
difference? Could this relate to the following bugs?

Here are related us1 specific bugs, Brad could you have a look and
see if they feel solved?

 https://bugs.php.net/75594
 https://bugs.php.net/75322

Bottom line: until php-mirror.nexcess.net looks good I don't feel
comfortable enabling it.

Regards,
Philip, a non-sysadmin

Hi Philip,

Thank you for your reply. A quick look shows that most of the css within
our mirror itself loads from the us1.php.net domain which does not resolve.
If I add '209.126.17.76 us1.php.net' to my local hosts file, our mirror
site loads as it should for me locally.

Could you re-create the dns entry for us1.php.net to verify before adding
us back into the official mirror page?

Thanks again,
-Brad

Hi Brad,

I enabled us1 so it should show up soonish. I did not enable it for "Round-Robin" yet until we confirm us1 works. *fingers crossed*

FWIW, we enable/disable via a web app and the DNS happens automagically without human intervention. The app refers to the php-mirror.nexcess.net cname and does not reference the IP address. I do not know the DNS update frequency.

Lastly, are you the new contact? It lists Chris Wells <mirroradmin@nexcess.net> today.

Regards,
Philip

Hi Philip,

Thank you. Will be watching once DNS propagates. Looking at some of the
other mirror sites including us3.php.net, it references the css to their
us3.php.net domain as well, so this should resolve.

The primary contact can be switched to me, I have been handling any mirror
related issues for Chris.

Thanks again,
-Brad

Hi Brad,

Looks like DNS propagated although the following each shows the root
home page instead of the PHP manual:

  http://us1.php.net/manual/en/
  http://us1.php.net/manual/fr/
  http://us1.php.net/manual/

This was reported here:

  https://bugs.php.net/74644

Granted folks focused on https:// vs http:// in that bug but I suspect that
was a bit of a red herring.

The documentation pages themselves seem to work fine, though:

  http://us1.php.net/manual/en/function.strlen.php
  http://us1.php.net/manual/fr/function.strlen.php

As for the CSS references, interesting, I wonder why some mirrors do it
differently than others. *shrug*

Regards,
Philip

Hi Philip,

Thank you, I will check into this bug with the manual pages. It is very
odd, we sync everything directly from the php source. Will update when I
know more.

Hi Philip,

I spent some time looking into the documentation link issues last night,
but was not able to find anything unusual. Last night the mirror sync'd via
cron and as of this morning, all of the documentation links are now working
correctly. So I am not sure if DNS somehow played into the issue that had
been seen, but everything does now look to be good.

I would also like to volunteer to help with maintaining the PHP mirrors if
assistance is needed. I have a team of system engineers that would also be
available to help with any system administration items that we could help
with. Would just need to know who to talk to to begin the discussion.

Thank you again for your help.

-Brad
